Archos Recorder buttons - can they be reprogrammed?

(1/2) > >>

catstevecam:
Hi - I use my JBR20 for live speech recording - normally with good mp3 results.

Sadly the PLAY/PAUSE button has become rather dodgy - occasionally it works in recording mode - but often nothing happens or it reduces the gain instead of starting the record process.

Is there any way I can reprogram one of the other buttons (menu ones spring to mind, as I rarely use f2 or f3) to replicate the 'start' 'pause' function?

The PLAY/PAUSE button works much more consistently when in normal replay mode.

Any offers of help gratefully received.
Regards,
steve

Mmmm:
Yes, but you'll need to download and edit the source and then compile your own build first... the file you'll need to change is this one: /apps/keymaps/keymap-recorder.c

catstevecam:
Thank you Mmmm

 - your reassurance is most welcome
 - but your advice is lost on me as I find myself unable to open the .tar file
 - let alone edit the specific lines.

Can you either point me in the right direction (code illiterate that I am) - or better still write the button reprogram to f3 and post on the compiled version?

Many thanks - I guess I'll have a read through the help files and eventually work something out.

Steve

Mmmm:
You'd better work it out for yourself, otherwise you will be dependent on other people to compile for you to keep up to date and that will drive you mad (if not the people compiling it for you).

Anyway, assuming you are using windows you might like to have a look here: Simpleguidetocompiling.

Then you might want to read a few of the posts in the compiing forum from all the people who just couldn't get it working.. just to make yourself feel better if it didn't work first time ;)

Rincewind:
and don't be afraid to ask in the "Getting started at Compiling" Forum. If you are at the point where you ask yourself if you want to go the cygwin or the vmware route, I would advise to pick vmware.
To open .tar files you need a good zip program. Powerarchiver works great for me.
