Please Help: Cannot update my songs
gr2l:
Okay, I'm using a iPod 5g, and I just drag my music files into the music folder I made in rockbox. It doesn't show up in Tag Cache or File browser.
bluebrother:
What do you mean by "it"? Tagcache doesn't show folders that are present on your player but only virtual ones based on the tags of your music.

If you get an "incompatible build" you haven't updated your build completely. Updating requires you to not only replace the rockbox.ipod file but also the distributed files in the .rockbox folder.
gr2l:
The main problem I'm experiencing is that my music won't show up in tagcache or the file browser.
bluebrother:
I know that it won't show other folders besides my virtual ones based on the tags.
Oh and I fixed that incompatible build.

Okay, to make sure we're all talking about the same thing:
You plug your iPod into your computer, it mounts as a usb drive, you browse to it in DOS or Explorer, and go to \music\ and there ARE files there, that end in MP3 (or something else like FLAC or OGG). Make sure you turn on the option in Explorer to see the extensions to make absolute sure.
You unplug your ipod, and it boots into Rockbox, and you get the file browser. You can see your Music directory, and you 'select' it, and that screen comes up blank (except perhaps the status bar at the top)?
If so, hold down Menu until you get the quick menu. What does it say for "Show Files"? Set it to "Music" or "All". Do your songs show up in either of these cases?

No, I plug it in and yes, there ARE files in there. Rockbox and everything boots up fine. The issue is that the NEW MUSIC FILES I put in there don't show up. I do see my OLD MUSIC that was already put into my rockbox.
