Song Name Issues (5g Ipod)
« on: September 24, 2006, 08:43:41 AM »
As this is my first post i wanna start off by saying rockbox rocks (excuse the pun) but ye this is really great. I have got everything working so far and i have enabled the tag cache and done the ram back up etc. When im in the playlist menu the songs have (what i think) is what the labled under in the ipod _control so they have like 4 letter names such as ASUF etc. But when i play the song it has the proper name and album etc. Any help wld b greatly appreciated as thsi is rly great firmware.

You didn't actually say what your question was.

On the while playing screen it shows info from the ID3 tag. Meanwhile a playlist is merely a list of filenames, so in the playlist view you're seeing what file is in the playlist. The reason you're seeing different things is because they're supposed to show different things.

Please use whole words as is mentioned in the posting guidelines.

The names in ipod_control ARE the filenames if that's where your files are. I don't understand, is the file called "hi.mp3" ON the iPod, or is it called that on the computer, and then you used iTunes to copy it over, so it's called ASJF in iPod_control?

To play all you, the easiest method is just to insert your music folder into a playlist

Is the file in ipod_control? If it is, the filename IS ASDF. iTunes renames the files when it copies them.

When iTunes makes a copy of the music and puts it on the iPod, it changes the filenames to things like that. So, in playlists, they will look like that if you used iTunes to put the music on your player.

That is all. I'm not sure why you're asking if you should make a folder, as really it's as simple as "The playlist shows what the file is really called on disk."

so if i put my music on through itunes i will get a weird name like that because it isnt showing what it would look like on disc. If i want to put music on my ipod without using itunes do u just make a folder and put music in it.
