Converting ipod photo 40gb to fat32 help.

(1/2) > >>

smappler:
i have an ipod photo 40gb which is mac formatted with IPL on it.
im trying to follow the tutorial to convert it to FAT32 so i can put rockbox on located here:
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodInstallationFromMacOSX#Convert_an_iPod_from_HFS_to_FAT3
@ B) it says to download the partition table which matches the ipod exactly.
in that table below there is no 40gb photo.bin file.
does this mean that the 40gb 4g .bin will work?

and also it says that that procedure is an optional method. what are the other methods for converting it to FAT32?

thanks for any help
smappler

Llorean:
You could also reformat the whole iPod to fat32 deleting the firmware partition, then use a Win32 computer running the updater to restore the iPod firmware and it would then create a fat32 partition.

And I don't know whether the 4g .bin will work or not, but it is certainly not guaranteed to in any way.

sneh1621:

Hi, I'm brand spankin new here.

Rather than start a new topic, I thought I would just reply to this thread.

my question is how do I find the correct name of the disk device assigned to my ipod?

in reference too -> "NOTE you must replace "diskN" with the correct name of the disk device assigned to your iPod - disk1, disk2 etc"
