iPod 5g Theme - BlackBird
« on: September 22, 2006, 06:04:18 PM »
Alright, here's what I've come up with while I've been home sick from school today and plan to release a FINAL copy on Sunday Afternoon.

I call it...BlackBird

-Dan

Edit: Whoops...I posted up the wrong version of the image...but this is the general idea of it.

Here's the right image...no extra part of the bar at the top...

Graphics are cool.
I find the info text kind of "thin", but you have earned your Artist badge.

I kinda like it, however I don't really like the sort of 'aged/faded' look of the vines. I think it would look much nicer if those were coloured solidly. The play button is a good idea.

Slighty reworked.

Made the color a bit less transparent, and added more space for text. Also, as you can see, the 'aged/faded' vines are no longer 'aged/faded,' but a deep blue.

That actually wasn't what I was trying to communicate, those were just the best words I could think of. Uh,  the way there are little white lines on the vines, stemming out of the core of white and into the dark surroundings. Maybe cracked is a better word to describe it? Yeah, I think that the vines would look better wihtout them, although I think by the looks of it they would be difficult to remove.

I actually preffered the semi-transparent lower right vine to the new design ;)

Haaaaaaah...I meant to write Album, not label...

Ya, Honestly, I like this font (ter-u16n), but if you can find a better one that would work, or if anyone wants to MAKE a font for use, that'd be cool too.

Actually, making a font sounds like it would be awesome...Just cause I'm typing, can anyone post where you go in the wiki to find out how to make fonts?

And quickly before I go, yes, it's actually realy easy. I have a psd of every single layer. My PSD's are huge...like, so far, this is almost 2 mb for a small project, because I have so many layers, instead of grouping things, so I can go back and change things later.

You can use any tool that creates BDF fonts to make fonts for Rockbox. Then use bdfconv in the /tools/ folder (included with the sources) to convert it to a rockbox .fnt file. There are also programs that can convert truetype fonts to BDF (remember, use one you created your self or one that has a license that explicitly permits redistribution, and NOT a commercial or encumbered font).

A popular program, if you can handle the fact that it wants cygwin or a linux-like environment, is FontForge.

Quick question, what do you mean by NOT commercial or encumbered? I'm a bit slow with legal terms.  :P

As in, fonts that are copyright someone else, who hasn't given explicit permission for them to be reused or distributed.

First off, that comment coming from the person who made my NEW ALL TIME FAVORITE theme, that means a lot  ;D

And here's my next beta...or gamma, whatever you want to call it.

I took the white color surronding the black swirls off. I still have yet to think of an idea for the volume, so it's definately not ready for release yet. But I think it's coming along nicely.

maybe for the volume you could have the white ring around the spade looking play symbol thing fill up with color.  like if the volume is all the way down, then the ring is white but as you turn the volume up the ring changes colors or goes from like a light blue up to a dark blue.
