How to install Rockbox on a 1.2 firmware (5th gen and 1st gen Nano)
Noxneo:
Some of you out there might have done the ultimate mistake of upgrading your iPod to 1.2 FW (if you didn't, well keep it this way ^^). More, there is no way to downgrade the FW.
If you want to install rockbox on your iPod while having this firmware, the unofficial installer might report a problem regarding the sysinfo.
To avoid this problem, simply create a file named "SysInfo" (without extension) in /iPod_Control/Device (those folder are hidden, so be sure to display them).
Open that file with the notepad, and paste the following:
If you have a Nano:
--- Code: ---BoardHwName: iPod M26
pszSerialNumber: YM548470TJU
ModelNumStr: PA099
FirewireGuid: 0x000A2700126DCB6C
HddFirmwareRev: ADBA40KB
RegionCode: LL(0x0001)
PolicyFlags: 0x00000000
buildID: 0x05118000 (5.1.1)
visibleBuildID: 0x01118000 (1.1.1)
boardHwRev: 0x00000000 (0.0 0)
boardHwSwInterfaceRev: 0x000C0005 (0.0.12 5)
bootLoaderImageRev: 0x00000000 (0.0 0)
diskModeImageRev: 0x00000000 (0.0 0)
diagImageRev: 0x00000000 (0.0 0)
osImageRev: 0x00000000 (0.0 0)
iPodFamily: 0x00000000
updaterFamily: 0x00000000
--- End code ---
If you have a video:
--- Code: ---BoardHwName: iPod M25
pszSerialNumber: ................
ModelNumStr: MA146
FirewireGuid: 0x000A270014862D14
HddFirmwareRev: BU111A
RegionCode: LL(0x0001)
PolicyFlags: 0x00000002
buildID: 0x06118000 (6.1.1)
visibleBuildID: 0x01118000 (1.1.1)
boardHwRev: 0x00000000 (0.0 0)
boardHwSwInterfaceRev: 0x000B0005 (0.0.11 5)
bootLoaderImageRev: 0x00000000 (0.0 0)
diskModeImageRev: 0x00000000 (0.0 0)
diagImageRev: 0x00000000 (0.0 0)
osImageRev: 0x00000000 (0.0 0)
iPodFamily: 0x00000000
updaterFamily: 0x00000000
--- End code ---
Now you can install Rockbox via the unofficial installer ;)
Hope I helped some people out there.
NB: When you load the normal Apple OS, the SysInfo will be emptied, so make sure to install rockbox just after creating the file.
rapster:
Thanks a lot! One question: I sometimes use the Apple OS too. After installing Rockbox the Apple OS doesn't show any more informations about artists, albums, playlists etc. Is there a trick to use both firmwares?
Greetings

Actually, just to pinpoint something.
You can actually downgrade the firmware by installing the previous Updater to restore it to factory settings
Kreator666:
I do not recommend doing this for a Nano v1.2.
This is because the Nano with v1.2 has the extra component of firmware (the Nike+iPod bit) that needs extracting, just like the 5G has a Broadcom firmware. The installer at this point doesn't pick up on that and will not extract the Nike firmware on the v1.2 Nano - probably leading to installation problems.
The new version, with a way better GUI and feature set (also coded in NSIS), will be out next week sometime. It will address this problem and more - plus you won't have to fake a sysinfo file for it to recognise generation.
scorche:
...Just wanted to drop by and say that how to get rockbox installed with 1.2 is depicted in the windows ipod installation page in the wiki (where it is supposed to be, besides the manual, which I haven't checked if it includes those instructions yet).
