Installation problems with Archos Jukebox Recorder v2
« on: September 22, 2006, 05:20:13 AM »
Hi,

I have had my archos for a while now, and had to change the hard drive as it failed.  I have replaced the hard drive and the disk spins up fine when I turn it on.

But when it is on, there is nothing at all on the LCD display.  I have installed the rockbox files, by downloading the zip from http://www.rockbox.org/download/ and then extracting it to the archos player directly.

I can't see what I am doing wrong, can anyone help ?

Cheers.

Does the device have Rockbox flashed?

Actually, i was referring to this procedure: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/FlashingRockbox

If you have not, then that means that it is the retail OS that is doing this.  This means that it has nothing to do with rockbox and is, in fact, a hardware issue.

If it is confirmed by this route, you might as well open the inside and confirm that all is well inside.

Just curious, when your previous hard drive failed, how did you know this (i.e., what happened on the device that indicated to you that the hard drive had failed)?

the thing is I have no OS on it at all, it is a standard laptop hardrive formatted, with nothing on it, no OS whatsoever, I must be missing something

You do have an OS.  It is stored in the ROM on the device.  As I said before, it sounds like a hardware issue.
