Was there ever a Virus in V4.53?
« on: September 20, 2006, 10:57:28 PM »
Hi all,

I haven't used my Archos 6000 (upgraded to 20 gig) in some time, probably nearly a year.  Tonight I charged it up and started playing it and was enjoying the hell out of it when suddenly, after about 15-20 mins of play, the display froze up and the unit started playing some god awful heavy metal "stuff" (edited for language), for about 30-45 seconds, then went back to the song that was playing, right where it left off.

This seems to happen at a fairly regular interval, always after about 15 mins of play.

WTF?

There is no Rockbox v4.53. In fact the newest version-numbered version is 2.5

Well, thats what it says on bootup.  And I've identified the stinking feces as selections from a Metallica live album of some sort.   I'd rather it made fart noises, at least we could giggle about that...instead, it's just mindless 14 year old boy mentality, hormonally challenged crapola.

Are you sure you're running Rockbox? A little spot research shows me that there's a 4.53 of the official firmware.

The Archos Player shows the original firmware version number on boot before it starts Rockbox, so it is the expected behaviour.

The use of expletives is banned now on this board? Just curious.

I'll get it on the wire and poke around a little and see what I can find...it's damned strange though.

DL'd and installed latest version of Rockbox.  Still does it, though not as often.

sounds awfully strange... test those mp3s in another player... software player like winamp or xmms or such... i've heard about garbled mp3s during transfer to device before...
