Installation Incomplete missing ./rockbox
« on: September 18, 2006, 11:10:47 AM »
I installed Rockbox on my iPod 3G and everything went just fine. However I totally screwed up because I did not follow directions literally. I unzipped the Rockbox file to a directory on my hard drive and then copied the files I could see to the root of the iPod 3G. What I should have done was to unzip rockbox to the root like it said to do and the hidden files would be there like they should.

Not a big deal, I thought, I would just reconnect the iPod and actually unzip those files directly. Wrong, now it is not recognized and will not mount. Doing "fdisk -l /dev/sda" shows nothing. The bottom line is I can't get back to the drive to fix it and I tried mounting it on my Mac and it would not see it either. I assume since I am missing some software the iPod does not know how to be a hard disk anymore. What can I do to recover and get RockBox installed?

In case it helps I get the following in dmesg:

Your ipod is probably just not in "disk mode".  To do this, either start the Apple firmware before connecting to your PC (press and hold MENU as Rockbox is booting), or follow the directions here to enter the "emergency" disk mode:
