Won't boot rockbox - Ipod Mini 1st generation 2GB

I've followed the instructions to the letter 5 seperate times now to make sure I didn't miss anything but I keep getting the same results: I unplug the ipod, the apple logo appears, and the factory OS boots. No text, no rockbox logo, nothing out of the ordinary. I've tried restoring the Ipod through iTunes before following the instructions, formatting it through Explorer, and I keep getting the same results.

A few questions:
Which instructions exactly are you following?
You don't get any errors or strange messages during the iPod_fw and ipodpatcher (or dd) steps?
Which OS are you installing from?
How big is your Rockboot.bin file before writing it to the boot partition?

I'm installing from Windows XP through a USB connection. I've followed the instruction in the PDF manual for first generation Ipod minis, as well as the ones at http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodInstallation
No strange errors occur. My rockboot.bin is 3,395 KB.
