MP4 playback
« on: September 15, 2006, 01:23:56 AM »
hello...

i cant get some of my mp4 files to work using any builds of rockbox.
using senabs build it managed to show up the correct track legth and then said codec failure.(same with the daily build).
using pijulius build it just said no file and refused to play.

heres the info from winamp about the encoding used:
MPEG-4 AAC LC, 406 kbps, 44100 Hz(using nero)

since it says in the twiki that aac mp4 works in realtime on ipod 4g and up, what should i do to get it work?

i have a 60gig video ipod.

Currently the only AAC files *expected* to work are those created with iTunes. 192kbps AAC runs fine in realtime.

I'm only interested in results from the official build. Do *any* AAC files work with it? And are all of those that don't work such high bitrates?

yes i checked a couple of aac files at 128 they seemed to work fine, didnt hear them out or try seeking but i think they ran nevertheless.
its the higer bitrate ones that seem to come up with codec failure ,ill try encoding aac at higher bitrates using itunes and see if they run(i dont see the reason why they should, cause how much diff would the encoding app make?)
but yet it was able to display the correct track length.

Be sure to test with an *official* build.

okay heres the problem the aac encoder in itunes doesnt permit aac files above 320kbps.
So its not possible to see if the same song encoded in itunes work or not.But upto 320 kbps works fine.(i just tested it even seeks fine).
But would there be a difference in encoding if you use nero or itunes to produce the same format ie. aac with an mp4 container?
By default itunes produces m4a files and not mp4.

Nevertheless it wouldnt be that tedious a process to convert it to flac or sumthin.

Thanks

Is greater then 320k per channel pair even allowed by the AAC spec?  I've never seen an encoder that would do that.  If you have a > 320k stream, are you sure its only 2 channel?

What does "def co" mean? Please, our forum guidelines require that you try your best to use proper English. One thing this means is using real words.
