General Settings / Language.
You can choose out of a great variety of languages but if you want to use voice the language must match your voice file, i.e. for the english voice file to be used you need to select english as language.

this doesn't sound normal. Also, it sounds like you are using the ipod linux bootloader. This isn't the recommended way for rockbox. It also sounds like rockbox isn't booting at all. OTOH, if rockbox doesn't start at all, how can you change the volume in rockbox? Or are you referring to the volume setting in the OF?

To me this sounds more like an installation problem.

patwa:
Hi.

I used this page for the installation:
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodInstallation#Step_1_Install_the_bootloader

and downloaded the irmware patcher and bootloader_video.bin

I also downloaded the firmware from:

http://www.rockbox.org/download/

and chose the latest one for the iPod Video which is what I have.

I'll format and try again just to be sure.

If this isn't correct I'll start a new post in the installation forum, but just want to be sure before I do.

Thanks.

Hussein.

Llorean:
Your "list" with Rockbox at the bottom is actually the filetree. It is not a menu.

patwa:
OK thanks.  I'm going to re-install rockbox from scratch after formatting and restoring the ipod to defaults and see what happens.

Hussein.

Llorean:
I would suggest looking into our manual. Judging from what you've said, you probably haven't read too much of it. -50 is actually a quite *low* volume, 0 being the highest, which is why there is a negative sign in front of it. In fact I believe the 5G iPod's minimum volume is -54.

As well, I believe the manual explains the concept of the first screen you see being the filetree.
