iPod Video Voice Packs not activated

Hi.  I've installed the latest rockbox and bootloader but when I switch on the iPod the voice packs don't load.  I have the main menu with rockbox at the bottom, but clicking on it doesn't seem to do anything. Under 'General Setting > Voice', I have it set to on, and for file names and directory names to be spelt.   I've even set the volume to -50dB which should be loud enough.

For the voices, I downloaded the only one available for UK English, that being the IBM Voice, and put the english.voice file under the /langs folder in the ipod's root directory.

Could someone please possibly help me to get this up and running.  Have tried a format, restore and re-install twice to no effect. I'm using the iPod Video 30GB. It'll be absolutely fantastic if I can get this up and running and loaded with the 15,000+ songs I have before uni starts again in a few days.

Thanks very much in advance.

Hussein.

Which is what is wrong. The voice files go in the same folder that the language files are in, and that is /.rockbox/langs. This is also described in the manual, see http://download.rockbox.org/manual/rockbox-ipodvideo/rockbox-buildch2.html#x4-150002.3

Hello and thanks for your reply.  My apologies, but that is what I meant to say - the root directory of the rockbox folder so x:\.rockbox\langs\english.voice

Any help on this is much appreciated.

Have you tried resetting your settings? Also, I assume you have set english as language, don't you? (Btw, -50dB sounds pretty low to me. Why not trying a higher volume?)

Hi there.

Umm, not to be funny or anything, but isn't the language as english already? I mean, the menus are in english so...  Anyway if it's something else could you please possibly give me directions as to where to find the language option?

Also, when I switch on the ipod and press the menu option, I have rockbox at the bottom of the list, when I select it the screen flashing, 'loading' appears at the top and then it returns to the previous page.  Is this normal?

Also for the volume, what should it be?  I went about halfway down the list of volumes, past -40, maybe I'll try something higher.

Sorry if a lot of this is 'standard' stuff.  first time I've used an ipod (got it free with my mobile phone) so am still learning the ropes.

Hussein.
