You will be using either a wps (while playing screen) with peak meters, or the suofware equaliser.

Use a wps with no peakmeter and turn the equaliser off, (use the hardware equaliser if you want one) and your problems will go away.

If you're using the default WPS (While Playing Screen) then you have peakmeters. They're 2 horizontal bars that move around with the audio, showing you how loud it is.

The Aardvark skins do not have peak meters.
What codec and bitrates are your files encoded at?  I only experience skipping when scrolling through lists on my 5G ipod, w/o software EQ, and with crossfeed.
What other setting do you have enabled?
What are you doing when skipping occurs?

This information would have been useful in your first post.

Rockbox is not optimized enough yet to not skip when scrolling.  You have 3 options right now:

1) Scroll slower.  Much slower.
2) Live with it.
3) Join the coding team and fix it.

Most of use choose option #2.

Do you happen to know if this is something that's being "actively" persued by anybody?  I'm currently taking the "Just live with it" approach, but it's frustrating, so I'm curious if the fix is "in the works," or if it's just something that "may" get fixed at some point in the future.

Thanks,

Larry

There is no "may" about it. Jeeze, you think Rockbox's goal is have bugs like that? Seriously, it's not like they're all "Well, it works on the iRivers. Let's just give the shaft to the iPods and never fix it there."

The problem is that it's not *easy* to fix at all. So yes. You're going to have to just deal with it. Maybe for a long time, maybe not. These are people working in their spare time. They don't get paid for it. And in many cases because the hardware is somewhat undocumented, or because they aren't really from this field of design, they're making it up as they go along. Which means that sometimes they don't use the most efficient way of doing something, but it's the most efficient way *they* know of, and maybe someone else will come along later and say "Hey, I'm familiar with X component. If you do this you can get a speed increase" or whatnot.

So yeah, "Just live with it" is what you're going to have to go with for now.

I meant no disrespect, and I don't think I worded my question very well (I tend to type fast and sometimes my words don't reflect my intended tone.)  I was bascially just curious if anybody had any idea about what kind of timetable we were talking about.  I want to make it clear that I was NOT "complaining" -- I was simply in the dark, so I was asking if anyone had any information on this.  I don't know whether this issue currently being looked into, or if it's on a list of things that will be looked at down the road.  I thought that perhaps somebody on the "inside" might have some idea about this.  I fully understand if people simply don't know the answer.

I have a great deal of respect and appreciation for what the Rockbox developers and contributors are accomplishing with this project.  It's simply difficult to ask questions in this sort of environment without it sounding "demanding," which is definitely NOT the intention.  The simple truth is that I have no idea what other people do or don't know about this sort of thing, so I have to ask.

Sorry about any misunderstanding.

Thanks,

Larry

It's okay. I'll admit I'm very harsh on people sometimes.

But yeah, this is a case of "It cannot be predicted."

This is one of those situations that will gradually get better over time, so the most likely thing is that less and less people will end up complaining about it as the speed that they like to scroll at stops skipping. Then one day it'll just be gone for everyone

But it's also possible that someone will have some amazingly great idea to reduce the CPU usage of either playback, or more likely drawing text, and in doing it remove it entirely as well.
