"Gather Runtime Data" -- does it work on iPod 5G?

I've noticed that on my 5G iPod, none of the "play count" groups in the main menu work.  In other words, "Most Played Tracks," "List Played Tracks," etc. never show any songs.  I have "Gather Runtime Data" enabled, but I still don't get any entries in these groups.  Am I missing something, or does the "experimental" imply that this isn't working correctly at the moment?
