iPod Nano 4GB don't have 'hardware equalizer' ?
« on: September 08, 2006, 01:21:07 PM »
As abv, jus installed rockbox on my iPod nano 4gb.

seems like i cant find the 'hardware equalizer' :(

Under my sound settings i has got:

Volume
Bass
Treble
Balance
Channels
Stereo Width
Crossfeed
Equalizer

Wondering how do i get the 'hardware equalizer' since my friend said that it's under this menu :(

The 5G iPod is the only model with a hardware equalizer.

Yup, sorry, but Febs speaks true.  Guess the 5G had something secret in it, because the sound blows away my Audigy 2 ZS now.

His Nano does not have a hardware equalizer. I can guarantee you that if he thinks it does, he's confused.

The hardware equalizer is part of the Wolfson codec (audio chip) that the 5G iPod uses. The other iPods don't have this hardware, so only have the software Equalizer and Bass and Treble settings.

The final answer is "No."  ;)

In my opinion (I listened through a Nano a few times), if I heard what the Hardware EQ did (almost day and night difference with clarity, brings forth vocals so clear and crisp even on old Beatle's records, widens soundstage, shows you so many lost layers of low, mids, and highs that you took for granted in the mud that is regular SQ), I'd get a 5G ASAP.

Seriously, my iPod now beats the stuffing out of my Audigy 2 ZS.  I only listen to my music through the iPod now.

No, but its not a big deal.  The main thing a hardware EQ gets you is less power use for having the EQ on.  And evidently in the case of the apple firmware, the software EQ doesn't work nearly as well.  The software EQ should be better eventually, once the CPU power issue is solved, since the software can do a lot more then hardware.

No. It's a sort of messed up English made by the Singaporeans. It's called "Singlish" and it isn't pretty.
