I use the command prompt to make folders starting with a period.

or rather just use the MD or MKDIR command.

Just type this in:

md .rockbox
"
without quotes. Then navigate to the folder command prompt said it was in.

Sorry, I should have qualified my statement.

I think I've loaded explorer a couple times.  I have a(t least one) dos prompt open at all times.  I didn't even think of the possibility of doing this other than 'md .directory'
