Resizing WPSes
« on: September 07, 2006, 03:37:49 PM »
Hi there. People may have noticed that Rockbox has just become available for the iRiver H10. I'm delighted only there are very few WPSes/Themes available.

My main question is how do I resize a WPS? Is there a specific way? Or is it just trial and error? Is there a guide anywere? I'd be quite interested in doing it because I feel i've done very little for the H10 community and kindof want to do my 'bit'.

I've searched but found very little about it so was wondering if I could get some help here/a nudge in the right direction.

Here's the process, roughly, that I would go through if trying to do it:

1) Pick a font appropriately sized for the new device for the current wps.
2) Get everything lined up as text only
3) Take a screendump of the text.
4) Work out the image positions using that text screendump.
5) Scale the backdrop image down to the screen-size, and tweak it for the new text positionings.
6) Combine everything together, and make final adjustments.

Along with the H10, I noticed that, lo and behold, it uses the same screen size as the iAudio X5, so just use X5 Themes. And I actually tested it on my brother's H10 Dunno if that should be changed in the wiki, come to think of it. H10 and X5 WPS's, because at the moment, it only shows that it's for the X5, odviously, it works with the H10 however.

The iAudio X5 has the same screen size as the 20gb H10 (160x128) but the 5/6gb one has a 128x128 screen.

ive resized a couple of the ipod nano wps to fit my 5 gb H10 and they work fine, its just a bit time consuming thats all. You have to resize the background then adjust the grid references for the images in the wps file so the they will appear in the correct postions.

Off the top a bit, but is there someone i could send a zip of the modded files to so that they could put them up on the wps site? Or is that against the rules without gettin the permission of the original creator?

Out of curiosity, why do you want to email a WPS to someone. It's a wiki, the whole point of it is that you're supposed to be able to post WPSes by using the Edit button for the page.
