Anyone want a plugin that locks your player?
« on: September 05, 2006, 09:13:26 PM »
Would any one here be intrested in a plugin that locks your player when you run it, kinda like a lock screen for windows.

I've almost finished it and would love to know if anyone else would like to have it.

_______________
A bit more about it

When you run it for the first time it asks you for a password.
every time after that it goes straight into the menu, with which you can chose to either, lock or quit  (i haven't got around to making the change password yet)
When you chose lock, it waits for an input (button press) and then shows that enter password screen.
if you enter the incorect password. it simply waits for another try.
when you get your password correct, it closes the plugin and allows you to do whatever you want

the password is stored in a txt file under .rockbox/rocks/lock.set
so if you cant remember you password or want to change it, all you have to do it look @ it or edit it.

Ignores USB Input.
is vunarable to the almighty reset button =S

Please, follow the posting guidelines and make sure your Topics are actually informative. You say *nothing* about what the plugin is in the topic.

There are posting guidelines on these forums. It's recommended that you read them before posting in the future then. For example, please replace the "ur" with "your" so that it can actually be translated by machine translation.

Everyone starts off as a newb. The key is that you don't stay one. ;)

I assume the purpose of this is to keep someone from... What?  Changing the song that's playing?

It offers 0 security, as you can just plug the DAP in question into a computer and do whatever you want, including open the text file to find the password or change it.

So I'm confused. ???

well, i know it sounds lame at first,

So heres an example

but i often leave my iriver at home, and my brother had a habit of using it, so i simply run this plugin and leave it alone, and when i come back he's still trying to get into it.

i know it offers 0 security from theives, but its more like a friend repelent.

I hope that makes a few things clearer. anyway, im going ahead with it just for me, and i only wanted to know if other people wanted it.

Makes sense to me. Useful if you have annoying brothers or sisters about with idle fingers!

I know Id find it of use.

How would u lock an unlock? Would it be by pressing the keys a certain way or tapping in a code?

well, you press stop (or your players equivilent) and then type in your password, which then closes the plugin and away you go

simple =) + i never said it locked it at startup, it locks only when you run it, and if u cant get in, eiter reset, or plug it into your computer, delete /.rockbox/rocks/lock.set or open it in notepad and find your password
