sampledrops when recording with H120
« on: September 05, 2006, 11:47:41 AM »
Hi!

Ive been recording a file with the internal mic. the file was about 11 minutes long but a couple of times it occured sampledrops (think that was what happened. The sound shaked for a second and after that continued)

Ive heard that this have occured with the Iriver firmware but that the problem should been solved on the rockbox (im using the version from 2006 08 26)

have anyone else noticed this problem when recording?
Can it be something that just occurs when recording with internal mic?
Any way to fix or avoid this?

Thanks a lot for your help!

To me it sounds more like a puff of wind in the microphone or the casing taking a bump.
IMHO.

Anyway: I havent had anything like that..

well. it was my first try recording something (just bought it) with this machine.

puff of wind, no. it was not a puff of wind. (acutally we were indoors)

im pretty sure it was sampledrops. I havnt tried it again. will do some more testing later.

no one has noticed anything like this?

If you want to make sure that you have no sample drops I recommend recording an identical source a couple of times and comparing those recordings in an audio editor.

I tried this by recording a full CD into WAV format twice digitally and the results were bit identical, when compared in Audacity.

I also haven't had any problems with other WAV recordings made.

...you're better off feeding it a sine wav from your puter.  Much easier to see any samples dropped then.

Perik, sample drops always sound like a very short, crisp click sound, lots of treble, but no bass at all. The sound does not shake for a second, it rather sounds like a static.
