You messed up one of the steps. I honestly couldn't say which without more information.

Assuming you kept the original Bootpartition.bin, you should do
Code: [Select]
ipodpatcher -w N bootpartition.bin
where N is your iPod's number, and the iPod should work in Apple OS again (this is assuming you originally extracted it properly, and kept it around). Then you can try the install process again, from the start.

You are making a mistake somewhere in the install process. I can't tell you exactly which step you're doing wrong, because you aren't telling me anything other than "It doesn't work".

Downlaoded ipod_fw.exe, ipodpatcher.exe and bootloader-nano.bin in to C:\rockbox

in cmd cd to C:\rockbox and type ipodpatcher 1. My ipod found

type ipodpatcher -r 1 bootpartition.bin and bootpartition.bin

type ipod_fw -o apple_os.bin -e 0 bootpartition.bin in cmd. bootpartition.bin created

type ipod_fw -g nano -o rockboot.bin -i apple_os.bin bootloader-nano.bin and rockboot.bin created

type ipodpatcher -w 1 rockboot.bin in cmd

I get the following instructions from the Installation page for the Nano

ipodpatcher -r N bootpartition.bin
ipod_fw -o apple_os.bin -e 0 bootpartition.bin
ipod_fw -g nano -o rockboot.bin -i apple_os.bin bootloader-nano.bin
ipodpatcher -w N rockboot.bin

the only problem I have is your line

Quote

type ipodpatcher -r 1 bootpartition.bin and bootpartition.bin

What is the last "and bootpartition.bin" part?

I am having exactly the same problem with my 5th gen 60GB model.
I installed rockbox sometime ago witht he installer, but it wasnt to my taste, so I uninstalled it. some time after the same error message, telling me to restore my iPod via iTunes in multiple languages.

When trying to restore my iPod I also get that write error message, so I am left with a brick

What did you do to fix it theory_87???

Wait, you're saying you got an error some time *after* you removed Rockbox, and you're coming here for help with it?

well i think its a natural question to ask considering the guy had exactly the same problems I did, and because the errors started after i my experience with rockbox, it is clearly involved. Especially after uninstalling my iPod still uses the "Do not disconnect" signs that came with Rockbox, even after the firmware had been removed, so its fairly logical to come to the rockbox forum for a little help, so thanks for your assistance Llorean

That's a logical fallacy.  The fact that one thing precedes another does not necessarily mean that the first is the cause of the second.

It rained this morning.  Then I drank a cup of coffee.  Therefore, the rain caused me to drink coffee.

Anyone who knows me knows that this is not a logical conclusion, because simply waking up causes (or requires) me to drink coffee.   ;)

I think that Llorean's point is that your post suggests that your iPod worked properly for a period of time, and then started to have problems.  Is that in fact the case?  If so, it would suggest that the problem may be something other than Rockbox.

I think we could do without the Humean account of constant conjunction dont you?.
Lets just use basic empiricism shall we and say that in my experience if someone has an exact problem that I have, it would seem logical to consult them about said problem, especially if they have managed to fix it no?
Of course causation can never entirely be proven, unless of course if you are a determinist which it seems you are not.
Besides my question we aimed at theory_87, so if Llorean had no real advice, was it really worth posting?

No it is NOT the same thing. You are just being silly and making the problem harder to solve for you.

I'll offer a piece of advice, try the HP USB formatting tool.

It's not the exact problem that you have simply because the circumstances are quite different. You're both getting the "Generic Apple Error Screen." Since you get it for ANYTHING that goes wrong inside of Apple's portion of the software, whether it's Rockbox related or not, the odds are statistically very good that your two problems are unrelated.
