Video Playback on 5g Video Ipod

(1/2) > >>

rockybob:
I was wondering if theres any way to play videos at all on the 5g Ipod after you install Rockbox?  I assume there is some way, given that's the whole point of the Video Ipod... Do I have to use the original firmware for it?

lachlan:
There is a plugin called MpegPlayer that plays .m2v files. If you have any further questions I suggest you read the manual, or do a forum search as there are plenty of threads about this topic.

I was under the impression that .m2v files had no sound.  I didn't pay 450 dollars for an iPod video to watch videos with no sound :).  I am currently just using iTunes to upload videos and Rockbox for everything else and I was just wondering if RockBox has any 5g video playback besides .m2v using the 5g iPod's own video playing capabilities.

Llorean:
No. The M2V is a work in progress toward full MPEG2 video support though.

Similarly, those who paid such amounts when Generations 1 through 4 were first released, didn't pay for a crappy EQ and for gaps to be inserted into their gapless albums ;) .

Therefore I wouldn't be expecting any apologies from the Rockbox crew regarding video, if I were you, either  :P ...
