Video Playback on 5g Video Ipod

I was wondering if theres any way to play videos at all on the 5g Ipod after you install Rockbox?  I assume there is some way, given that's the whole point of the Video Ipod... Do I have to use the original firmware for it?

There is a plugin called MpegPlayer that plays .m2v files. If you have any further questions I suggest you read the manual, or do a forum search as there are plenty of threads about this topic.

I was under the impression that .m2v files had no sound.  I didn't pay 450 dollars for an iPod video to watch videos with no sound .  I am currently just using iTunes to upload videos and Rockbox for everything else and I was just wondering if RockBox has any 5g video playback besides .m2v using the 5g iPod's own video playing capabilities.

No. The M2V is a work in progress toward full MPEG2 video support though.

thats why when you want to play a video WITH sound you just load the original ipod OS and you can play videos WITH sound. woo hoo problem solved

I didn't ask for any appologies for anything.  Nor did I say I didn't know how to find a way around Rockbox's lack of a video player... Simply asked if there was a way.  Clearly there isn't, and I'll continue to do what I'm doing.  Thanks for the info.

If you watch a lot of video on your iPod, you might consider installing iPodlinux's Loader2 bootmenu -- keep in mind, it's completely unsupported by Rockbox devs, but it is useful it you frequently use the Apple firmware and prefer not to hold down the "menu" key every time.
