battery life statistics for rockbox vs. iaudio?

<< < (2/2)

bk:
I'm planning on doing a formal test, but w/ my X5L I estimate around 22-25 hours on a charge. That's not too far from the OF (~30hrs typically).

I suggest trying an official CVS build before complaining about battery life. Most third party builds are very heavily patched which can cause any number of side effects.

mhebsacker:
How recent is the "special album art" build? Does it already disable the USB-host chip?

Znirk:
Here's a battery_bench plugin log from my X5 20 GB. This was a largeish playlist of ogg -q 4 files, played with no user interference. Caption backlight was on (2x8 seconds), and headphones connected (32 Ohm Sennheiser PX100, in case it matters). According to this single test, the built-in runtime estimate is conservative (shows 6 hours after charging, actual runtime over 10h).

Llorean:
You know, caption backlight hurts the runtime a lot. Does the original firmware do that? I can't imagine the official runtime test having backlight on at all, they rarely do.

Znirk:
I haven't used the OF much. The battery life listed on iaudio.com is 14 hours, with a warning that users may get less out of it "depending on LCD usage". This definitely sounds like a no-screen test; I can run one of those with rockbox if you're interested.

Incidentally, the rockbox used for the test above was the 060918 daily.
