dead ipod

hi,

i have a video ipod which i installed rockbox onto recently: worked great for about a week, was loving the gapless playback, but just the other day it took a turn for the worse and no longer turns on. nothing happens either when i plug it into my pc. has anyone else experienced similiar issues

Have you charged the battery recently?

unfortunately it doesn't respond to anything, even charging... via usb or via a mains charger

Try a different USB cable.  It's a long shot, but perhaps the battery is dead and the cable is bad so it's not recharging.

I've found (with a Nano) at least, that if the battery gets "too dead" it won't show any sign of charging. The solution was to plug it in to a PC with USB for about 20 minutes, then toggle hold On then Off again, then hold Menu+Reset for about 30 seconds (or until something happens sooner)(all a method suggested at the Apple website) and then it reboot.

Your player may also repeatedly reboot itself when trying to load any firmware. The best way to do counter this is to grasp the timing and try to get into disk mode.
