WavPack Hybrid Playback Broken
« on: September 03, 2006, 12:36:12 AM »
Hi, just a heads up that WavPack Hybrid playback is broken with the latest build, after changes to the metadata parser - playback stutters and stops.  Reveting to yesterday's build, everything works OK.

I don't believe Hybrids every played back in hybrid mode. I'm fairly certain they just played as the compressed file.

Sorry, force of habit, it's the lossy files that won't play back!

I encode my CDs with WavPack hybrid and copy the lossy file to the iRiver.

Lossy files are encoded at a bitrate of 400 with the -x switch.

I just loaded the Sept 4 H120 build and created at 400 kbps WavPack file using -x and could not reproduce your problem. The boost ratio was running about 30%, so that doesn't even seem close to being a problem.

Does it happen with the Sept 4 build? Does it happen all the time, or just once in a while? With all files?

The metadata change was so trivial I can't imagine it causing that kind of problem; but programmers always say that!  :)

Thanks...

Hi,

I've just checked using wavpack lossy (love it btw, especially with the extra bits to make it lossless - keep those on my PC and lossy on DAP - great idea!) using 060903-2244 and they work fine for me.  Files are 325 kbps VBR and boost ratio is about 60% (H140)

Cheers

That's weird, thanks for checking it out guys.  It doesn't happen on every file, just some... after further listening I also got some stuttering on the 1st September build, but going back to a 23rd August build I get no stuttering atall... so maybe it's due to a combination of different things?

The fact that reverting to an earlier build can stop stuttering on the same file tells me that it's not the files themselves that are the problem.

Weird that no-one else experiences the same thing.

At first I thought it might be because I've been using the latest WavPack alpha since it was released with -x3, but now I find the problem even on older files.

I have RockBox loaded to flash, but I guess that shouldn't make any difference.

If no-one else has the problem, I'll try to see if I can find any other cause and do more testing.

Are you updating your in-flash Rockbox with each of these "new builds"?

As it is, Rockbox in flash should be considered an unsupported build, as it's not an official process yet, and the side-effects are definitely unknown.

Hi, yes I am.  I boot from disk, then reflash with the latest firmware.

Hello!  Just a quick note to say that this problem is now fixed since Miika introduced the new scheduler.
