iRiver remote: Mode menu no longer makes sense
« on: September 02, 2006, 09:07:07 AM »
Hi,

the Mode menu of the 060901 build of Rockbox for the iRiver no longer makes any sense. You can get to this menu by holding down the A-B / Mode button on the remote. Once there you get a similar to the one I've drawn below:

ShuffleRepeat
Show Files

The problem is that the buttons no longer correspond to the layout of the items, especially since the items also have arrows pointing left, right and down. Originally, the top left button used to operate the Shuffle option, it now operates the Show Files option! Shuffle and Repeat are operated by the top right button depending on which way you push it and the bottom button has absolutely no effect.

Was this change intentional?

Thanks

Richard

I'm not sure what buttons you are pressing...

The quick settings should be modified by using the Navistick, Left for Shuffle modes, Right for Repeat modes and Down for File view modes

For me the top left has ff = right, rew = left
top right and bottom both operate the show files (ie down)

Which seems to make sense....

What he said....^^^

I can also confirm that the H300 remote works as it should.

OK, the 20060903 build behaves like you said it would (I was using the 20060901 build when I reported issue). Personally though I still think the original settings were better as they made use of all the buttons on the remote.

Yes, the H100 LCD remote is kinda weird.

The Volume +/- "buttons" used to go higher/lower in the folder hierarchy, which they dont do anymore.
In fact I cant seem to browse up or down in the folder tree anymore, using the remote.

huh ?
Play and STOP to go up or down the hierarchy ?

sorry, that just seems plain bogus to me.

I really like the old way of it behaving. play and stop should IMHO do the exact same thing as on the main unit. Still, configurable keys would be the bestoption, obviously.

who said anything about the play button?

The NAVI button selects the folder/file you are on, the stop button cancels. The stop button is the only one that is different. On the main unit it stops the playbeck, on the remote it is cancel.

The reason I think this is good is that you can navigate anywhere up the tree by using one button.. to go back down you need to use the stop button as an extra.

and I swear blind that this is how it has always worked....In fact this is how it used to work on the main unit too, long ago.... before the stop button was changed
