Sweet Spot:
My last post was getting too long, so here's more questions: I noticed that when browsing the menu screens, the white font is nice and visible when a song is playing, but that when you pause the song, the font seems to become lighter, as if another layer of color was hovering over it all, making it much harder to read, especially in bright light. I guess I can figure out how to change the font colors all together but, I rather like the white, since it's clean. Anyway to find out what's causing that ?

Hi Doug,

Hmm, Hungary? beszelni magyarul? :)
--- Quote from: Sweet Spot on September 30, 2006, 02:12:36 PM ---For some reason, after Sinab's beautiful boot screen finished, I'd try to go into the menu, but after that, everything would just lock up on me, and I could actually hear the hard drive platter making a very strange sound as I tilted the iPod in a back and forth motion. The only way I got the iPod to do anything, was by booting into the Apple firmware, so I just decided to wipe out that build and start fresh with yours.

Are you using Senab's build? please make sure to download my latest builds (jbuild) the thread is here: http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=4417.0 but I'm not able to edit the first thread, so please look at the last entry for the download links.
Regarding your other problems, to tell you the truth I'm happy I wasn't able to reproduce them, but unfortunately I have no idea what could cause your problems, could you please try it with a clean official rcokbox build? I just checked out things, was listening to music for an hour or so everything went fine, no skips, no hdd activities, the cache worked fine, so I'm pretty clules here. Sorry I can't help you out better, but write me if there is anything I can do.

On each one, at the bottom is an icon for "play" and "pause". IMO the order in which they're represented, is backwards. For instance, when a song is playing, it shows the pause icon, and when on pause, it shows the play icon. To me, that's a bit misleading/confusing, which in turn becomes a bit annoying (just because I"m anal retentive about some things) because I think it should be the other way around, but maybe that's just me ?
--- End quote ---
Yeah, I did this on purpose, I thought it should show the function of the button as the three other arrows do, so if your ipod is playing it shows the pause so you know what the button does if you press it, and to tell you the truth it looks better with the pause sign as with the playing one, so I would prefer to keep it that way, but if you guys think that it should be otherwise I could change it easily. Btw, if you change the *.wps file and replace the play with the pause it should be as you wanted.
--- Quote from: Sweet Spot on September 30, 2006, 02:12:36 PM ---Fake edit #2: There also seems to be a big lag problem now. As I'm attempting to access my list of songs by pressing the select button, nothing happens for at least 10 seconds. The lag is also affecting how fast I'm able to increase or decrease the volume or just navigate in general.

Just checked out and it works fine, it just waits till it spins up the hdd, but the menu gets accessed right away.
--- Quote from: Sweet Spot on September 30, 2006, 02:12:36 PM ---(I was going to ask different stuff now, but think I'll reserve those questions for my next post, so instead, my final question for THIS post is, I JUST noticed that the volume now actually goes to +6 dB rather than to just 0 dB when you turn it all the way up. (output through my stereo) Why's that ?
--- End quote ---
Maybe it is a cvs source change because I haven't done anything.
--- Quote from: Sweet Spot on September 30, 2006, 02:12:36 PM ---I hope I didn't rant for too long. Thanks for any answers you can give.

NP, I thank you for your feedback/comments!
Cheers,
Julius

Yeah, I know this bug, but it was fixed in the latest build, please make sure to use the latest jbuild, it should be at least this one:
rockbox-jbuild-5g-20060930-1.zip
as you can see its dated to today, but there is a "-1" on the end which should mean it is a fix release, so this one should fix this problem, but write me if you still notice it.
Ooo, and please make sure to redownload the theme packages too because they have been updated too.
Cheers,
Julius

Nem, de a felesegem igen. She's the full Hungarian one in the family. I'm only half through my grandparents.
Hmm.. Well, I'm glad to hear that you have no problems with your build, but wonder what's up with mine. I actually did have the latest RockBox daily installed, as well as YOUR latest one too, and DID update to the latest themes as well. And no, I was never using Senab's. If you look at my post again, you'll see that I said I had big problems with it, so reverted to your latest. But ok, I'll download the latest stuff again, wipe my hd of any remnants and start over. Hope that licks it.
Regards,
Doug

Well here's something interesting: I never bothered to download the build and themes again, since I know that I already had the newest ones, but remembered 2 things. One of which explained the font problem, but the other was related to (and still is) something entirely different.
The first thing is that I never "cleared" the firmware after having installed the latest build etc. I always forget to do that, and in fact, think that this step should be more easily managed by just doing a reboot, and not necessarily by "clearing". Anyway, that fixed the lighter shade of white font. As for the skipping, I remembered that this was a problem a bit back when enabling the EQ, and apparently, it still is, a problem.
I played the song which had the most skipping (Sonny Rollins, You are too Beautiful) and had the EQ disabled, by default since I had just cleared the firmware. I listened to it for a couple minutes and there was absolutely NO skipping whatsoever. I then enabled the EQ (not the hardware one, the software one) and right away, it started skipping again.
This is a real bummer for me at this particular moment in time, since my Sony V6's decided out of nowhere, to just crap out on me. There must be a disconnected wire in it somewhere, because it's totally dead, not a single hiss/sound ! So I bought these pretty crappy Sony clip on's, which actually sound somewhat decent when the sound is EQ'd ! So now though, I can't apply any eq, or else I get constant skipping. Argh.
Other than that though, I'm pretty happy with what the iPod is able to do with RB. Now all that needs to be done is some MAJOR battery improvements, and I'll be very happy. (and the fixing of the EQ stuff too eh ?)
Doug
