iPod scroll wheel "jumps ahead" when using acceleration patch.
« on: August 27, 2006, 01:55:51 AM »
When scrolling with the scroll wheel on my Video iPod (I"m using a build with the "iPod Scrolling Acceleration" patch) I get very "jumpy" scrolling -- i.e. I start to scroll, and as soon as I start moving just a little faster, the display jumps way down the list in one pop, then continues scrolling normally.  This results in my constantly scrolling well PAST what I'm looking for and needing to go back.  If I scroll very slowly, this does not happen.  Once it "jumps" in one direction, it scrolls fast, but normally.  As soon as I change scrolling direction, it will do it again.

I tried playing with the "acceleration" parameters, but these do not help at all.  The scroll wheel does NOT do this with the native firmware, nor does it do it if I'm not using the patch.  If I'm not using the patch, however, the scrolling is WAY too slow on my iPod.  Is there any setting that effects this, or any other way of fixing it?

Thanks,

Larry

answer: no, there is no other setting that affects that.

It's very subjective and also depends quite a bit on font size and user habit (going straight to things vs browsing around), so I can't really tell you what's right for you, but I would recommend playing with the thresholds more. Perhaps you should read up on exactly what they do .. I mean, if it's not working for you.

Ask the guy who compiled the build. The mods are gonna be angry when they see this lol

I did read up on this, and changing them really has no effect on the specific problem I'm describing.  In other words, I can radically change these settings, and even though the behavior of the scrolling changes, the problem remains exactly the same -- i.e. I STILL get the issue where the "jump" takes place shortly after I start scrolling unless I scroll very slowly.

Thanks,

Larry

I don't understand.  Isn't this the correct place to ask this sort of question?

Thanks,

Individual patches are fine to discuss here, though ideally the best place to ask questions about them is their entry in the patch trackers.

Questions regarding Unsupported Builds should always be taken up in the thread for that build.
