m4a tagging - ALAC problems

(1/1)

omendelovitz:
this may also involve aac, but I already converted them to mp3 out of frustration, so I can no longer speak definitively on that subject.

Anyway - all my alac m4a's are properly transferred to RB, but when I load them up (tagcache updated properly and directory cached as well), m4a's show up as "untagged" files - now I realize that alac likely uses id4 or some other tagging format and that I'm trying to view them on an id3 database, but is there a way where I  can view all my songs (mix of mp3's and m4a's) w/o having to sacrifice using Apple OS database structure (I keep Apple OS around as a last resort)?

Thanks in advance.

Llorean:
Well, it's not really an ID3 database. Any tags recognized by Rockbox should show up in it.

If you play the ALAC files from filetree, do their tags show up in your WPS?

omendelovitz:
My problem is that I sync my files in iTunes DB format, so they aren't necessarily easy to locate.  However, I do find that in trying to play the files, the unit crashes.

Llorean:
You do realize that for the purposes of testing it form the filetree, you could've just copied a single file over. Saying "I sync with iTunes" is irrelevant if you just need to test one file.

omendelovitz:
No, that hadn't really occurred to me, but then again a lot hasn't these days.  Please take it easy with noobs like me, I realize we're kinda dumb.

Edit: did what you suggested, and the tags show up fine.  They just don't show up on id3 database (although someone in the flyspray mentioned that ANY tags supported by RB should show up on the id3 database)
