error -4
« on: August 25, 2006, 08:18:02 AM »
Well, after the most recent cvs. I compiled it and tried to load it on my ipod. Worked fine, but the ipod crashed. So I wiped the source and tried again, but now the ipod tells me I cannot replace certain files, and also gives me this error on load.

The -4 error means that the rockbox.ipod file is corrupt.

how do I fix that if I can't replace the rockbox file. It won't let me put a new version in there...

weird... finally working again...

Unless you tell us what the "issues" are that you are having, we can't provide much help.

Not at all.  I read that before posting my last message.  Are we supposed to try to guess what you are doing to try to replace the Rockbox directory, or what is happening when you try to do it?

Are you trying to delete the directory from within Rockbox?
Are you trying to delete the directory from Windows?
Are you even using Windows?
You say you compiled Rockbox yourself.  Did you run "make zip" to make the .zip file?
If so, did you extract its contents to the iPod?
Are you using an unzip utility to extract the new directory to the player?
If so, which one?
What error message are you getting?
Are you trying to cut and paste from the .zip folder?
If so, what error message are you getting?
What *exactly* do you mean when you say "the ipod tells me I cannot replace certain files"?

Not at all.  I read that before posting my last message.  Are we supposed to try to guess what you are doing to try to replace the Rockbox directory, or what is happening when you try to do it?

Are you trying to delete the directory from within Rockbox? no
Are you trying to delete the directory from Windows? no

You say you compiled Rockbox yourself.  Did you run "make zip" to make the .zip file? yes (has worked for about 5 months now too)
If so, did you extract its contents to the iPod? yes read above
Are you using an unzip utility to extract the new directory to the player? yes
If so, which one? the standard suse one
What error message are you getting? could not write to /media/ipod-1/.rockbox/wps/rockbox_default.wps.part(replace with anything at the end basically) Cancel/Skip/Auto Skip
Are you trying to cut and paste from the .zip folder? Both
If so, what error message are you getting?
What *exactly* do you mean when you say "the ipod tells me I cannot replace certain files"? I mean that the above error occurs like rockbox one day just decided to lock me out
