Need help, computer freezes when plugged in?

<< < (2/2)

Llorean:
If it's taking that long before windows lets you use the drive, you should consider disabling autoplay for it. If you've told windows to "Do Nothing" every time, that's not enough, because on reinserting it still has to scan the drive to see if there's now an autoplay file, or if the contents have changed (because it stores different things to do based on different contents for that drive letter.) That could help the time-lag on insertion.

Hey thanks for the tip Llorean. (That's always bothered me.)

Alright,

Ipod is turned off, all programs on computer are turned off.
I put the Ipod into disk mode.
I plug it in and 9/10 times I do not get any type of error messages and if I try to do anything with the task bar or anything else for that matter, everything freezes. I plug it and everything unfreezes.
The 1/10 times that I do get a message it says that there is a 'unknown device' plugged in. I try to open My Computer and comp freezes again.

Sigh I was really looking forward to listening to the new hardware EQ and was not expecting this. I'm so stressed out about this that I barely slept last night!!  :'(

How do I go abouts turning off autoplay?

Edit : Also apparently when I go into the apple firmware I don't have any songs anymore? :'(

Edit2 : When I click on the usb icon in the system tray... :

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)

New update : Comptuer isn't freezing anymore... just it won't detect the ipod.

Wow talk about a headache and heartache. Finally got it to work but had to wipe out my ipod :(
