4G Screen Swap.. color in RockBox?

I currently have a 4G greyscale display 20GB iPod.  I was thinking about replacing the screen with a 4G color display, but Apple's current firmware on my iPod, I'm assuming, won't support a color screen.  What about RockBox?  Will the screen function as a color screen using this firmware?  It seems to me that the only differences between the 4G with greyscale and color, besides the screens themselves, are a few lines of code in the firmware.  If I can hack the firmware, I might be able to get a color screen to work.  Has anyone tried this or something similar?

I don't think this will work, as I'm sure there are bigger differnces between the color and gray scale 4th gens than just the screen. But, try it, it may just work.
