Folder tree vs. ID3
« on: August 23, 2006, 06:48:45 PM »
Can anybody explain why rockbox has a menu option to choose whether to browse files through folder tree or ID3 tag? Why shouldn't both be available at once (as in the original iRiver firmware)?

What do you mean "Both available at one"?

You never see ID3 tags and filenames at the same time, at least in the H100.

My hunch is that the OP is referring to the fact that when iRiver boots up on at least the H1xx, you can choose between an artists listing, albums, genre, tracks, or the file tree, without having to separately click on something to have the ID3 database listings appear.  (This assumes that the db option has been set to on originally--which, of course, results in an 80+ or so second boot-up in my case.)

(Boy, this stuff is hard to remember; I mean, it's been over a year since I used this stuff.)

edit and a bit off track:  You know, the iRiver firmware really did (does) have some nice features, such as the above, and the ability to do so much from the main WPS through single button presses and scrolling through options:  for different equalizer settings, immediately reflected/heard; for A-B, repeat and shuffle settings.  And for the LCD screen it has, it wasn't (isn't) unattractive.

Ah, well I've been lobbying to have a "Filetree" option be added to the top of the TagCache, so you can just enter it and see a list of the filetree, and when you back out all the way, back into TagCache.

Llorean, that would be the perfect solution. Along with a similar one to directly access playlists/playlist catalog, this would really round off the user interface for those who like to use the Tag functionality.

I think "Playlist Catalog" would suit the setting nicely.

I honestly don't know if there's a feature request. I've talked with the guys, and the general consensus is that something in that general grain needs to happen (either a TagCache link from filetree, or a Filetree link in TagCache, the latter being what I prefer) but there's just a lot of things on their plate 'n all.

I know *I* haven't filed it, at least.

What about the link, did you file that one?
