ipod nano install trouble
« on: August 23, 2006, 05:35:45 PM »
I got a problem. I installed rockbox via the instructions and it appeared to boot under rockbox, but after I disconnected the USB cable my iPod just shut off and now won't come back on. Windows doesn't seem to be scanning it, either.

1.  What happens when you plug in the USB cable?  Does anything appear on the screen?

2.  Try resetting the unit by pressing and holding Menu+Select.

1. Windows doesn't seem to detect it.

2. Tried that and it didn't work.  :-[

Sometimes you need to hold it very carefully (make sure your finger on Menu does not wiggle at all) for about 30 seconds. Longer than the usual short period.

Plug it into your computer, and leave it to try to charge for a few hours.

Yeah, I screwed up...but I have another question.

When my iPod is connected, it goes into "Do Not Disconnect" mode and never comes out of it...it was doing this before I installed Rockbox as well. I usually disconnected it anyways because nothing was ever updating, but is this harmful?

It's *best* to eject the ipod from your computer before removing it, but as long as files aren't actually being transferred when you unplug it, it *should* be fine.
