Is it possible - beep on hard-drive spin up (H300)
« on: August 22, 2006, 12:07:12 PM »
Hi there, I posted this on the misticriver rockbox forum and it was suggested that I bung it on here, so here is my idea, and sorry if it's in the wrong forum (I know how annoying it can get when people post things in the wrong place :( ):

I was thinking, as the hard drive spins up and down or turns on/off (if you have the Disk Poweroff set to on), is it possible to set the player to have a single beep at you down your headphones? One on hard drive turn on/spin up, and one on hard drive turn off/spin down, so you know it's safely turned off and "locked". (the hdd not the player)

My thinking is that when I'm walking quickly, or riding my bike, and the hard drive spins up, you never know about it, which could be a bad thing if you're doing something that shakes it around a lot like I do.

I've had a quick look at how to make your own patches and things for rockbox, but I'm not smart enough/don't have the time to learn how to. I'm sure I could do it if I tried hard enough, but it would take too long.

So basically, if anyone could have a quick look into it for me (if you like the idea), then that would be great. And if there's anything bad/wrong with this idea, let me know!

Thanks alot, Dom :).

an easy but not so comfortable solution would be to use the wps tag for hdd spinning
-let the backround get red or so via a conditional
but this means that you have always an eye at it  :(

There already is a little hard drive symbol that appears in the top right hand side of the screen (on default wps's or on the menus), but as you said, you have to look at it, and I regularly check to see if it is there or not, which made me come up with that idea.

Thanks for your input however.
