Most stable H120 build for blind user???
« on: August 22, 2006, 10:33:47 AM »
hi,

I have set up an iriver H120 with talk directories, talk filenames etc etc for a blind friend over in Ireland.

Is there a 'most stable' build so that the '3 times per day' eventuality of the pinhole reset is not needed?

Thanks

The most stable 'recent' version is CVS-060815, the last one before the button code reworkings that have caused lots of (expected) rework and fixes, hence lots of daily builds.

Whether there is a 'more' stable version, I don't really know. You could go back to before the feature freeze was lifted, but that has too much missing TagCache and playlist functionality for me to live with.

I certainly don't plan on upgrading again until it dies down a bit :)

ok I am going to put that on.

Correct me if I am wrong but I just extract all of the files onto the iriver as per the zipped files and their directories.

To upgrade (or downgrade, I don't know what version you are on ATM) an existing installation, yes. Unzip to the root drive, preserving directory structure.

just as bad. (info does show CVS-060815 on Iriver)

Quickly flicked to an album. Pressed play then went to general settings to turn off Shuffle. Went back to album playing screen and it froze on 15 seconds of mp3 track.

Possibly it is stable with all voices off  but as per my first post this is not possible.

Am going to advise her to
a) Press  Stop before changing any settings
b) Be minimalistic in her usage style.
c) Always carry a paperclip.

I am curious as to whether there is much work going on to impro
ve Rockbox stability?

Have to admit that even with its  flakey nature I would install it on my  Sony HD3 given a half chance.
I just wish that where its got massive credibility, ie being the irst usable software for blind hardware mp3 devices it would be stable.

is that with talk files all set to on with talk files for every single track on the device?.

It plays fine, just stops needing a paperclip reset when browsing files etc.

No, I haven't tried with talk files, although I have used it with voice on.

If you can reproduce the freeze at will, you should open a bug report on the patch tracker and provide as much detail as possible about how to reproduce the bug.  (Of course, check first to make sure that the same bug has not already been reported.)

 :D :D :D

used todays build (29th August 2006)  and after 15 minutes of testing I could not induce even 1 freeze!!!!!!.

Good stuff.

I guess the requirement for a non 'cutting edge' version for voice users often meant that this would rarely get noticed.
