CRC Error --> RB problem?

(1/2) > >>

When I transfer my files from my iRiver onto my computer, sometimes I get a CRC Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check). It seems a number of bites that suppose to be the containence of the file, are damaged.
My question is, is it due to the ROCKbox firmware? Maybe this firmware effects the files. Is it a bug, if so, can it be fixed?

CRC errors are almost always the result of physical problems with the hard drive.  You can try running chkdisk -f in a command prompt (if you are running Windows) to scan the disk and correct bad sectors.

OK thnq, but when I insert

Yotto:
You can, but if the chkdsk reports problems, and you leave them unfixed... Well, you'll be exactly where you are now.

Febs:
If that makes you more comfortable, then sure, do it with the -f switch first.  Make sure you have your files backed up one way or the other, not because the chkdisk will damage them, but because if the disk has CRC errors, it is unreliable to begin with.
