Using Ipodsync
« on: August 21, 2006, 03:53:49 PM »
I want to install Rockbox on my 5G 30gb video ipod. Right now I use ipodsync a lot, so I was wondering if anyone has gotten ipodsync to work with rockbox?

Thanks

I doubt it. Rockbox is made for listening to music, not to replicate the functions of the Apple firmware. It sounds like iPodSynch just gives you a different way to sync certain types of info so you can view it using the iPod's original (Apple) software.

Though, if all ipodsync does is put your music on your ipod and do whatever magical little stuff is required to fiddle with Apple's database, then yes, Rockbox will work with it so long as you use Tagcache.

But if you never ever use the apple firmware, you're much better off just copying your files like you would any others.

Actually ipodsync takes stuff like news from rss feeds and e-mail from outlook, and converts them into text files, which are accessible from the notes section. The problem i'm having is that ipodsync dosen't recognize my ipod when I plug it in. Is there any way to fool it into thinking its an ipod with default firmware?

Actually, while it's plugged in, your iPod IS in the Apple firmware, at least if you plug it in without holding menu (or plug it in while off).
