Writing/updating TagCache from external host?
(1/1)
ecatmur:
Hi, I have a 60GB iPod which, sadly, is too small to hold my full music collection ;D. Unfortunately this makes TagCache very hard to use because even if I patch RockBox to remove the 10 000 songs limitation it still takes ages to read the song tags. (Shovelling 60GB off my 4G Color's hard disk and through the cores is gonna take a while... :()
Since the song metadata is already known to my computer, what I would like to do is to write the TagCache from the computer while/after transferring songs to the iPod, the same way iTunesDB works.
Is this possible? If so are the necessary data structures documented anywhere (I'm not afraid of having to write a library for this)?
Otherwise is there any other way to do this?
bascule:
If you go into the TagCache menu screen, there is an 'Export Modifications' option. Select that, and a plain-text file of all TagCache info is written to the disk.
If you can get your computer to write a file in the same format and re-import it into TagCache, you'll be sorted.

Ah, right. Guess I need to get hold of a more recent build, then...
Thanks! I'll post back when I get something worth shouting about.
