Charging via USB without entering USB mode

Since the AC jack on my Archos doesn't respond, I am forced to use USB for charging. Only recently I found out that I hold down F1 while connecting the unit to my USB AC adapter to prevent it from entering USB mode.
Can I make this the default behaviour of the unit? Is there a feature to support it? A feature of this sort will also make sure people know that charging via USB without entering USB mode is possible. USB mode also has the fault of getting the unit too hot since the HD keeps spinning the entire time.
