sid playback
« on: August 17, 2006, 08:53:37 AM »
Hi, I just noticed today (yeah, i know it has been there for a while) that rockbox plays sids. :)

I've got just a few questions

1. is it going to be possible in the future to skip between subtunes? Some of my sid files have a lot of them..
2. It would be nice to be able to select which emulation frequency to use. (PAL, or NTSC)
3. also, as there's the "old" chip (mos-6581), and the "new" (mos-8580), it would be cool to select which to use. My old c-64 had the old one, so i'd like to use that. :)

Sorry for being such a n00b asking these, since i'm almost sure they're going to be added later.. But I just wanted to be sure. hehe

anyway, thanks a lot for the sid support. It's awesome!

1) Hold right, as if fast forwarding, and in SIDs I believe it skips subtracks.
2) and 3) I can't answer. I do know the SID codec isn't being worked on at the moment, but that it's popular among a certain group of developers. You probably want to file actual Feature Requests for these though, as the forums are less likely to be noticed.

Thanks for the reply, Llorean! Those 2 and 3 aren't that important really, and nice to see the subtune change actually works already. :)

Thanks again.

I found this even later ;-)

I read about this new feature it in a small interview in the cevi-aktuell.

I found some infos about the iRiver port here in the forum, but I have an Archos. Will the plugin work with a Archos Recorder, too?

As the sid playback is done by a software codec it won't work on any of the supported archos players, sorry.

What a pity :-(

Luckily there are some podcasts containing C64 music.

You can use for example sidplay2 to create a WAV file and then for instance lame to encode it into MP3.

For sure. But it would be much easier to copy all those fine .sid's from the HVSC to the Archos and listen to them without any encoding.
