Preamp with the radio?
« on: August 17, 2006, 05:56:05 AM »
Because I have replaygain on and then a preamp on top of that I don't have the volume up very high. The problem is that when I switch to the radio I then have to crank up the volume to hear it. I obviously then have to turn down the volume down before I listen to my music again.

Would it be possible to apply the preamp to the radio, or is this not feasible?

On a side note, is the radio limited to players that already support it? I was just curious as, since it's a radio wave, can the signal be interpreted in software or is hardware required? Just curious really...

Why not just remove the preamp, and keep the volume that much louder?

Players without radio can't really do much, since they don't have an antenna.

You can't implement a physical device in software.  That'd be like having an "interpreted" screen or remote.  At some point there has to be an actual device captureing the radio wave, demodulating it, and then amping it for playback.

Llorean, I hope you are taking the mickey...

riksweeney, you can't just magic a tuned radio signal out of the aether with software, you need hardware. This is as close as you'll get:
