Simple mpeg-4 video codec

I was wondering if anybody could start an .mp4 video codec for the ipod, it is not needed, but I think many people would love it, jus let me know!

There's a work in progress MPEG-2 codec already working (no sound yet), and there's also a less working work in progress MPEG-4 one in the tracker, if you want to pick up work on it. But the boards are not the place for flat out feature requests.

Sorry, about the feature request, but I have somne other questions, how long will it be until we can use some ipod accersories in rockbox?

And most importantly, which audio codecs are more optimized than the others, like for example I know AAC is near the bottom of the list.

There is no way to tell.  Basically, it will happen when someone decides to do it, and makes the effort to figure out how.

mp4 does not usually mean the same as "mpeg 4 video", as in most cases it just refers to the container format, and can refer to audio streams or any of a variety of things.

The mpeg 4 video player is a patch, yes.

The patch in the tracker isn't an mpeg-4 video player - just a port of a basic xvid decoding library to Rockbox with a test program that decodes frames and writes them as bitmaps to disk.
