« on: August 16, 2006, 03:27:48 PM »
i was just wondering about it and my question is if it could be possible to autopower on
and play a song.
yes, i mean an alarm plugin or simply play a song without power on
and keep ipod turned on all night (connected to the wall)
i hope its added soon cuz im about to enter to school and
waking up with the symphony of destruction would be cool!!!

well keep on  rocking

Yes, this is definitely possible - it's already been done on the Archos platforms with a clock function.

However, it requires RTC support in the bootloader, and this hasn't been done on any other platforms (yet!). H300 are probably going to get this sometime in the not-too-distant future, but as for iPods, I think it's a bit further away due to the lack of information about the iPod hardware (if anyone knows better, feel free to prove me wrong).

No RTC support?  I'm not a programmer (though I do dabble) so maybe I'm misunderstanding you.  It is possible to get the current time on iPods, as my WPS is displaying the correct time right now.  Isn't it then possible to ask every, say, 10 seconds if the hour/minute matches the alarm value, and then take an action (Play a specific song, just start playing, or whatever)?

I haven't dived into the detail for Rockbox but the usual way this sort of thing is done is to program up the RTC with the alarm, then put the processor tp sleep till the RTC interupt wakes it up, you then have to go ans looke to see what caused the wakeup (on button or RTC) and take the appropriate action - normal startup or alarmclock function.

I think that this might need a hardware mod on the Archos to connect the interupt line.

This is my understanding of the situation. This requires bootloader compatibility, which isn't there for  anything other than the modded Archos at the moment.

and... playing a song at certainhour without auto power on???
i could have my ipod turned on
all night and connected to the wall. (if that doesnt damage the battery)
and voila a song will play, and i will wake up
in my opinion i dont think its necesary to autopower on.

I own a Archos Jukebox recorder and would like to use auto power on to sync my Archos with the PC automatically (I use SyncBackSE for that). Where can I look for the plugin mentioned earlier on that is able to automatically switch on the Archos Jukebox?

Can I wake up (auto power on) my Jukebox recorder every night to a certain time (without doing anything, just waiting to be synchronized)? In the docs I always read something about how to play a song at a certain time... Do I missunderstand something there?
