bench testing the battery ??????
« on: August 16, 2006, 01:34:40 PM »
hi
i want to do this test on my new 2200mAh battery.
i know how to do it, but i want to know the guidline settings to get a fair test comp[ared to others etc. are these steps correct so far?:

clear settings
earphones plugged in
disk poweroff - ON
EQ - OFF
bass/treble - 0 (zero)

all of my songs are 192kbps VBR

some questions:

1. now do i put the player on shuffle mode to make the disk drive spin up now and then or ONLY repeat a playlist continuosly?

2. voloume at zero, maximum?

3. anything i missed??

thanks

Volume at 0dB, which happens to be maximum for the h3xx might be good. Another reasonable level is 25, or really whatever you want as long as you record it.

I personally think picking 0dB works so that everyone can run tests at the same level, but many people pick a level that's comfortable to listen at so they can listen some during the test.

You should put the player on shuffle with a playlist that is bigger than 32mb (the buffer) though how much bigger is not too important.

As well, for it to be proper, once the benchmark has started, go to the WPS and do not press any further keys. That way the backlight never comes on, or anything. :)

ok thx!

so, if i put the playlist on shuffle, will that play songs continuously or must it be shuffle AND repeat all ?

also

is the WPS supposed to be the default WPS when i clear the settings?

You can do Repeat All, or Shuffle on repeat.

And yeah, when you reset the settings it should end up the default WPS (you may need to shut down and boot the player back up to clear the backdrop if it doesn't clear properly)

ok thx.

now what should i set the following at:

1. Brightness  (do i leave it at default when i clear settings?)

2. Backlight (do i leave it at the default 5 seconds)

3. under System> Battery should i still update the capacity of my new 2200mAh battery before doing the test?

4.Disk Spindown - 5 seconds or 3 seconds?

5. Directory Cache- ON ??

6. Disk Poweroff- YES ??

sorry about all the questions! thanks for the advice!

The best is to reset settings and leave *everything* at the defaults, except for enabling the disk poweroff function.

All the battery capacity setting does is tell it what number to say when it tells you "Time Remaining" (Defaults to 16h 15min at 1300mAh I believe), and doesn't really affect the use of the battery at all.
