Looking for people who can't start the original firmware anymore (h300)
« on: August 16, 2006, 07:21:22 AM »
Some people have been reporting they can't boot into the original firmware anymore. I suspect this is because of a thrashed eeprom.

For this reason I added the eeprom driver that allows you to read/write this eeprom.

Settings -> Info -> Debug -> Dump ROM contents will dump both eeprom (internal_eeprom.bin) and flash contents
Settings -> Info -> Debug -> Write back EEPROM will write a file (internal_eeprom.bin) into the eeprom.

I'd be interested to know if writing a copy of the eeprom of a working h300 fixes a hung h300.

TO RESET THE EEPROM:
- Attached is a copy of my eeprom: internal_eeprom.bin
- copy it into the root of the h3x0
- Settings -> Info -> Debug -> Write back EEPROM

note1: you need to log in to see the attachment
note2: attachment was empty and had a different extension - should be fixed now

This topic is open for discussions ?

Have you test it on any H320 ? Sorry for asking but i'm a bit afraid of doing any crazy thing to my player. It is just 2 months with me. Don't want to damage it. Anyway, thanks again.

Edit: Ok. downloaded .doc file. removed the extension. now what to do next ?

BTW, file size is 0. I think its wrong.

My bad. The attachment should be correct now, instructions included in the first post. Sorry for the incompleteness

Ok. Downloaded latest Bleeding edge build and Daily build for the H300 iriver series. Hopes it works. will test in a few hours.

These builds are right for this eeprom driver ?

This will not change the firmware that is installed on your iriver. It will keep booting rockbox or iriver (if you hold REC).

What it does do is restore the settings like brightness,... of the original iriver firmware because I think yours got corrupted.

Problem solved, petur. YOU ARE THE MAN!

Proceeded as you told me. Iriver firmware booting fine.

Forget to dump my broken eeprom setting so you could have debug it.

I need help!  I don't know if i have the same problem as everyone.  I can't access my music folder, it looks like chinese.  But, I can access my files and music and ebooks through the browser just fine.  I have a I river h10, 5gb.  I bought it off someone brand new.

Does the directions above apply to this?

I don't have any type of iriver software for my computer, is this a problem?  Do I first need a driver for my Iriver?

And I can't find the reset button on my iriver?  Maybe there is none.

If I upgrade my firmware, could that be the trick in fixing the problem?

thanks and thanks for any help b/c i'm so confused   ???

This is only for The H300, not H10, to reset H10 I think you just remove the battery (im assuming you mean the 5/6gb model) also if language is chinease (or most likely korean ;)) try to remebber how to get to the language option (im sure I saw one when installing rockbox onto my cousins H10 (6Gb)).

Your iriver shouldn't need any iriver software if you use WMP to transfer your files.

If you can't see music in H10 when using rockbox connect it to the computer in safety mode then in windows explorer right click the music directory, click properties then unclick hidden and say yes to apply to all files and folders. if you have mostly WMA files rockbox does not play these atm.

If you can't see music under the iriver firmware I don't know what has happened ???

I would upgrade the rockbox firmware as much as possible as the build is so new that very usefull updates are added daily, if you mean upgrade the iriver firmware then i sugggest you do that as well my cousins worked fine with the latest MTP software... speaking of MTP did you get the correct H10.mi4 replacement file ??
