Rockbox 5G Settings Problem

(1/4) > >>

LanceUppercut:
Hi Guys,

Now I'm really confused.  I was having a problem with some of senab's builds, and so I switched back to a conventional build, and it hasn't gone away.  I've tried multiple builds, and I've tried reformatting, i've tried apple's restore utility, I've tried a surface scan, I've tried chkdsk /f, and i'm at the end of my rope.

So,  What happens is every few times I boot up, All my settings are gone.   All my themes, all my fonts, like it's just been reset.  I'm positive i'm not turning the hold button on, and I can't seem to find any kind of action or pattern that causes it to happen.  Just every few times I boot up, it'll be reset.  Any ideas?  I love rockbox and I really would love to get this resolved!

At one point, I was getting corrupt files, and that SEEMS to have stopped upon reinstalling of my bootloader.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.  I'm extreamly confused.  I feel like I must be doing something wrong either in the installation process or in practice, but i've read the manual very carefully during both, so if i'm missing something, or mis-understanding something, don't be scared to tell me i'm being dumb.

Llorean:
Have you done a surface scan of your iPod with chkdsk or some equivalent utility?

LanceUppercut:
I did a complete surface scan with Windows XP scandisk, (properties, checkdisk) and with Chkdsk.  Chkdsk only finds corrupt and cross-linked files.  But the scandisk comes up clean.

Hmm....

Llorean:
My concern is if the settings sector is sometimes becoming corrupt.

Anyway, questions
1) Do you always properly eject your iPod from the computer?
2) Do the clears happen randomly, or only after updating to a new build?
3) Do you always shut down your iPod properly, or do you let it idle off or use Menu+Select instead?

Llorean, is letting it idle off worse or different from shutting it down normally?
