Well I have determined it is the contrast. Hurm.. I can barely see the line i have selected when scrolling. I can't read anything but I do know the positioning of the highlighted row. can anyone tell me how I can get to the contrast setting (that Llorean was speaking of) by the row selections? ex: from start screen gor to general settings (3rd option down) ect?

thanks!

Wow. Well after a while I figured out how to get to the contrast settings (blindly) from the user manual. If anyone is ever curious as to how to do all of this from main menu (initial blank screen) select general settings (3 down), select display (3 down), select LCD settings (3 down), select contrast (5 down). then scroll all the way over until you can see the screen.

thanks for all of your help!

I had the contrast problem as well when I installed Rockbox, but assumed it was my iPod.  I'll change the default to be a lot darker.

It looks like the default contrast issue for the 3rd gen iPods is now fixed in CVS
"15 Aug 09:14 Daniel Ankers   firmware/drivers/lcd-ipod.c 1.30     Change default contrast for iPod 3G"
so you should not have this problem next time you update your installed build.

But It may take a little bit longer until all the other 3rd gen issues are resolved ;)

dan_a:
Yes, I've changed the default contrast to 42.

At the moment I'm working on getting the coprocessor to do audio decoding.  That should mean that you can listen to any type of music without skipping.

Once that is working, I plan to have a look at the USB since the chip used on the 3G is fairly well documented - but there's a good chance that nothing will come of that.
