3rd gen ipod blank screen

Hello all. I just stumbled upon Rockbox and I am super excited to get it working on my 3rd gen. The bootloader works just fine and once the initial rockbox page displays I get a blank screen. I have repeated the install multiple times and cannot figure out a solution. Can anyone help me? I have a feeling I'm not doing something right.

Tilt the screen, and hold it in light, and see if you can see text from various angles. I've heard that sometimes the contrast is off on first installing. If you can see signs that text might be there, you'll need to go through the menu
General Settings -> Display -> LCD settings, and I believe there's a contrast option there (I'm not really sure where it is)

I forgot to mention that the blank screen can light up if I touch the ipod. In order to get out of it I have to reboot the machine (and then it goes into the same process (through the bootloader, to the initial rockbox image and then the blanks screen)). I hope this helps.

Yeah the tilt doesn't seem to help at all. I'm not too sure what I am supposed to see. I can barely see on the upper left of the screen the "rock" from the initial image (but it might be a burn in).

Does anything happen when you press the menu button?
